Dr. Norman received her B.A. from Vassar College and her Ph.D. from Stanford University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of California, San Diego/V.A. San Diego Healthcare System. After receiving her Ph.D., Dr. Norman completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UCSD focusing on neurobiology of trauma in women. She completed an NIAAA-funded career development award on concurrent treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorder.

Research Focus

Dr. Norman’s research primarily involves etiology, assessment, and treatment of PTSD. She is particularly interested in co-occurring PTSD and alcohol/substance use disorders as well as in developing and evaluating psychotherapy treatments for guilt and PTSD in recently deployed combat Veterans. She is co-chair of the VA's workgroup on PTSD-SUD implementation research through the HSR&D QUERI.

Clinical Focus

Dr. Norman is the director of the PTSD Consultation Program through the Executive Branch of the National Center for PTSD. She previously directed for the VA San Diego OEF/OIF PTSD clinic which treats PTSD in recently deployed Veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan.
