Biography
Dr. Meeks received his B.S. in biology, summa cum
laude, from Furman University in Greenville, SC. In 2000, he
earned an M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia in
Augusta, GA. He completed his adult psychiatry residency
training at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He then
completed a clinical geriatric psychiatry fellowship and a
postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of
California, San Diego. Dr. Meeks is currently an Assistant
Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSD.
Research Focus
Dr. Meeks’ research interests include
neuropsychoimmunology in late-life depression and persistent
nonmalignant pain. He is currently the Principal
Investigator on a NARSAD-funded Young Investigator Award to
study this issue. His other scientific interests include
interventions, such as exercise, to promote successful
cognitive and emotional aging. Clinical Focus
Dr. Meeks is a California-licensed, Board-certified
psychiatrist, with specialized training in geriatric mental
illnesses and an interest in culturally and linguistically
competent care for older Latinos with dementia and other
neuropsychiatric illnesses. Selected Publications
