LETTER TO APPLICANT

August 2010
Dear Prospective Applicant:
Thank you for visiting our web site and learning more about the UCSD/VA Psychology Internship Program. The Program was formed in 1984 and the first students were accepted for the Fall of 1985. Six agencies currently participate and all are affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry, UCSD School of Medicine: The VA San Diego Healthcare System; UCSD Outpatient Psychiatric Services (OPS); Children's Hospital Outpatient Psychiatric Services; UCSD Eating Disorders Program; UCSD Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric Services (CAPS) and UCSD Medical Center. The Internship was formed to provide a great diversity of training experiences in Clinical Psychology.
The full-time internship lasts 12 months, includes 2080 hours of training in two major rotations, and will be funded at a stipend of $26,080. Benefits include 20 days per year of all-purpose personal leave, applicable holidays, and access to co-pay health insurance coverage. The program begins July 1 each year. The program has been fully accredited by APA since 1986.
Please find our descriptive brochure, along with additional application materials on our web site http://psychiatry.ucsd.edu/psychologyInternship.html under Applying for Internship. Please note that our deadline for receipt of all requested material is November 1, 2010. We participate in the APPIC National Match for selection of interns. All candidates must be currently enrolled in an APA accredited Clinical or Counseling Doctoral Psychology Program. Students matched to our program may be required to have certain immunizations, TB Testing and complete a federal background check. Our Internship Program trains doctoral candidates to function as autonomous psychologists in health care settings that place a strong emphasis on teaching and research, using the Boulder, scientist-practitioner model. As such, we attempt to recruit students with balanced experiences in both clinical and research domains rather than students with a predominantly clinical professional focus. Students from ethnic minority groups are especially encouraged to apply. We invite your application.
Sincerely,
Sandra J. Brown, Ph.D., ABPP/CN Sean P.A. Drummond, Ph.D.
