Dr. Meyer is an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at University of California, San Diego, and a staff psychiatrist at the San Diego VA Medical Center where he supervises residents and medical students, cares for a ward of acute adult inpatients and performs clinical psychopharmacology research. Dr. Meyer is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Medical School, and finished his adult psychiatry residency at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. At LA County-USC he subsequently completed fellowships in Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology Research, and was on the faculty of USC and Oregon Health Sciences University before transferring to UCSD. Dr. Meyer has published articles and chapters on various aspects of antipsychotic psychopharmacology, the pharmacokinetics of atypical antipsychotics, metabolic effects of atypical antipsychotics, and health care outcomes in patients with schizophrenia. Dr. Meyers current research focus is the metabolic syndrome in patients with schizophrenia, and he is the recipient of a 5-year, NIMH-funded Career Development Award in this area. Dr. Meyer is a national speaker on the subject of side effects and metabolic issues surrounding antipsychotic therapy, and is chief editor of a recent book on the topic of medical illness and schizophrenia. |
