Nurse Practitioner Training Program

The UC San Diego Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Clinical Training Program is designed to provide masters and doctorate level nursing students enrolled in a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Educational Program at a credentialed nursing school with training at high quality clinical rotations. Clinical rotations have special emphases on inter-professional collaboration and public mental health patient populations.

Students in this program rotate at community training sites in addition to rotations within UCSD Medical Center. Students receive additional didactics and mentorship to augment their educational classroom studies at their respective nursing schools.

UCSD placement sites include: UCSD Outpatient Psychiatric Services- Hillcrest, UCSD Medical Center Consultation-Liaison (CL) Psychiatry (ED and inpatient), UCSD Senior Behavioral Health Program (SBH),UCSD specialty sites including the Memory, Aging, and Resilience Clinic (MARC).Community placement sites include: Survivors of Torture, International, Vista Hill, San Diego Youth Services, Community Research Foundation's Areta Crowell Wellness Recovery Center and Jane Westin Center.

Graduating students are prepared to provide high quality, collaborative care to patients seeking mental health services in a variety of public sector settings.
