UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry Allied Mental Health Professions' Clinical Training
Clinical Training Mission
As part of its clinical teaching mission, the Department of Psychiatry has educational affiliations approved through the UC San Diego Allied Professional Health Education Committee (APHEC) with the following universities:
- Alliant International University's California School for Professional Psychology
- California State University at San Marcos, Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track
- California State University at San Marcos, School of Social Work
- San Diego State University, School of Social Work
- University of San Diego, Marital and Family Therapy Program and Nurse Practitioner Program
- University of Southern California, School of Social Work

Training for Mental Health Professionals
The Department provides clinical training for graduate students in:
- Marital and family therapy
- Psychology
- Social Work
- Nurse practitioner
Clinical Experience
- Trainees generally spend nine months to one year on one of the specialty Clinical Services of the Department.
- Provide services to patients under the direct supervision of our professional licensed staff and clinical faculty.
- Students gain experience in evaluation and diagnosis
- Best practices in individual, group, family and couples therapy
- Case management
- On-going seminars are taught by clinical faculty and staff of the Department.
