Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Curriculum

Each fellow provides direct patient care at a continuity clinic, in addition to rotating through various specialty sites. Each site will include a mix of direct onsite and indirect telephone or televideo supervision facilitated by experienced psychiatric providers. Supervisions will use a multidisciplinary approach including Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, Community Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, and other therapy specialists.

Continuity Clinic

• Each fellow is placed at an outpatient continuity clinic for a portion of their week. They carry a small caseload of patients and provide ongoing care for an entire year. Curriculum will allow for a gradual start for incoming fellows.

Rotational Sites

• These sites range from 3-6 month placement durations treating special populations. Rotational site options may include but will not be limited to the following:
• • Inpatient / Residential / Short-term crisis stabilization
  • ED / Urgent / Consult / Walk-in
  • IOP / PHP
  • Special populations: Eating Disorders, Forensic, Transient youth, etc.

Supervision

• Fellows will receive ongoing group and individual supervision throughout the entire program. Fellows will be provided with protected time to engage in supervision throughout the week, which will be separate from the onsite supervision provided while fellows are providing direct care. This supervision will be used to discuss cases, promote professional development, facilitate self-awareness, further develop clinical knowledge and skills, and provide encouragement and feedback.

Didactics

Fellows will participate in weekly group advanced didactics. Didactics will supplement clinical experience and will cover a variety of clinical and professional topics which may include but are not limited to the following:

• Fundamentals of psychopharmacology
• Advanced evidence based therapy for medically and psychiatrically complicated patients
• Advanced medical therapeutics
• Special population and diagnosis focus: child/adolescents, transitional age youth, young adults, ADHD, substance abuse, developmental impairments, and trauma informed care
• Community psychiatry concepts
• Mental health integration with primary care and pediatric care
• Psychotherapy modalities
