Department of Psychiatry Interest Groups

Addiction Special Interest Group

The Addictions Special Interest Group (ASIG) is a multidisciplinary consortium of clinicians, educators, researchers, and trainees.  It is lead by Drs. Carla Marienfeld and Olivier George.

Our work will impact the health, lives, and experiences of people struggling with substance use disorders nationally and internationally. We will work to shift the culture of addiction from stigmatization to treatment, care, and recovery.

  • To cultivate and nurture a community of addiction-interested parties to advance and facilitate excellence in clinical care, research, and education and training related to addictive disorders.
  • To contribute to the mission of the UCSD Department of Psychiatry, the UC San Diego Health System, and the UCSD School of Medicine via increased coordination and organization of addiction related parties.

Meetings are held monthly on the first Monday from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm.  Contact Sarah Garvin ( for more information.
