Women, as compared with men, have a greater lifetime risk for mood changes.

Mood changes can be associated with the use of oral contraceptives, the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, the postpartum period and menopause. The fluctuation of reproductive hormones during these times may contribute to mood changes in women.

The UCSD Women’s Mood Disorders Clinic, under lead investigator Dr. Barbara L. Parry, is conducting several research studies to evaluate treatment options using Sleep and Light Therapy for women experiencing mood and sleep disturbances induced by changing reproductive hormones.
