UC San Diego East Campus Medical Center
UC San Diego East Campus Medical Center: Psychiatry residents rotate through the East Campus (EC) Behavioral Health Unit (BHU), a 30-bed adult inpatient psychiatry unit serving patients aged ≥ 50 years. EC is spacious and easily accessible for residents, located 10 minutes from Hillcrest/25 minutes from La Jolla, near the San Diego State University. PGY1 and PGY2 residents rotate through the BHU as a part of their training in inpatient and community psychiatry. Residents at EC work alongside medical students, attending psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and other multidisciplinary team members. PGY4 residents have the option to rotate at the BHU as a senior resident experience. There are no in-house, on-call resident duties at BHU. The BHU sits close to the EC Emergency Department and medical units that offer additional elective opportunities for interdisciplinary experiences. In the coming years, EC is expected to be a site of additional growth and development for the UCSD Department of Psychiatry, with ambitious plans to expand inpatient units and develop new partial hospitalization programs and ECT/neuromodulation services.
