Clinical Rotations

PGY1

  • 6 months Inpatient Psychiatry
  • 4 months Primary Care (Including a 1/2 day weekly continuity clinic)
  • 2 months Neurology

PGY2

  • 4–6 Months Inpatient Psychiatry
  • 1 month Alcohol and Drug and Treatment (ADTP)
  • 2 months Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (Including 1 month of Eating Disorder)
  • 1 month Psychiatric Emergency Clinic (PEC)
  • 2 months Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry (C/L)
  • 1 month Geropsychiatry
  • Half-day weekly Psychiatry (selective)
  • Outpatient Psychotherapy (CBT) and supervision

PGY3

  • 1-year outpatient psychiatry at the UCSD Outpatient Psychiatric Services
  • Up to 20–30% time at specialty clinics (selective opportunities)
  • Outpatient Psychotherapy (Psychodynamic and CBT) and supervision

PGY4

  • 3 Chief Resident positions and additional senior resident positions.
  • Senior residents are required to complete their Independent Study Projects and are encouraged to continue caring for selected psychotherapy patients carried from PGY2 and PGY3 years.
  • Residents have between 20–60% time available for "elective" experiences.
