Welcome to Advanced Fellowship Program in Psychosis and Major Mental Illness for Physicians and Psychologists. Our program aspires to educate future Academic Physicians and Clinical Psychologists, and to help nurture their early academic careers by building important skills in research, clinical care, teaching, and mental health advocacy. Our specific program has a strong focus on schizophrenia and related psychoses, and we seek to develop the next generation of clinical-researchers who will move the field forward for people with or at risk for psychotic disorders. We have the unique advantages of being a small and individualized program (2-3 trainees per year), supported by the remarkable clinical and scientific resources within the San Diego VA and closely affiliated UCSD Psychiatric Neuroscience community. The UCSD Department of Psychiatry is home to a world-class faculty – many of whom trained within our Department – that is dedicated to the success of our trainees. A general description of our program follows below, and the broader reaches of our Department can be appreciated by exploring our Departmental website.
The challenges that we face in bringing hope and better life quality to individuals and families with psychoses will only be met by educating the future generations of clinician-scientists. We at MIRECC are deeply committed to this process. So please read-on, and contact me or anyone from the program if you have any specific questions!
Warmest regards,
