  • Zvinka Zlatar, Ph.D.

    Zvinka Zlatar, Ph.D.

    Principal Investigator

Dr. Zlatar received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Florida with a focus on adult neuropsychology/geropsychology. She completed her APA-accredited clinical psychology internship at the University of California, Los Angeles (Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior), focusing on the neuropsychological assessment of older adults and Spanish-speaking adults. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in neurocognitive aging at the University of California, San Diego with an emphasis on imaging the neural substrates of physical activity in older adults. In 2016, she joined the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at UC San Diego. Her research focuses on developing and deploying innovative, person-centered digital health interventions designed to reduce dementia risk in older adults. By moving beyond traditional laboratory-based protocols, Dr. Zlatar implements real-world, free-living approaches that target modifiable lifestyle factors, such as increasing physical activity and reducing sedentary time, to promote brain and cognitive health in aging. She also studies early detection of dementia and the clinical utility of subjective cognitive decline in Hispanic/Latino(a) older adults.

    Andrea-Paula Vargas

    Reseach Assistant

I place great value on understanding what I can do to help create stronger and healthier communities. In the future, I hope to continue in a health-related profession where I can continue learning more about healthy aging while helping promote diversity and inclusivity within STEM. A few of my favorite activities include swimming, hiking, painting pottery, and watching baking shows. I also love traveling to new places and trying new things with friends and family.
