Summer Institute

One core aspect of the STAHR program is an intense four-week summer research training experience at UCSD for first-year scholars. The Institute will by a mix of remote and in-person. Scholars will attend the first two weeks in person on the UCSD campus (following the STAHR Workshop) and the second two weeks remotely from their home institution. The main goals of this Summer Institute are to increase knowledge on clinical and translational aspects of HIV/Aging and develop key skills for the development, implementation, and dissemination of mental health research in older HIV+ persons. It is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience over four weeks, with mornings dedicated to advancing knowledge in HIV/Aging research and career development through formal didactics, structured readings, and faculty-led discussions. Each didactic session is supplemented with readings distributed by presenters to deepen understanding of key topics. While mornings primarily focus on the didactic series and group project work, there is flexibility in how participants engage with these activities. Afternoons, in contrast, follow an open format, allowing for tailored rotations, mentor meetings, or independent work based on individual interests.
This year, we will organize a four-week Summer Institute, with two weeks in-person at UCSD and two weeks conducted virtually. The in-person sessions will take place from Monday July 21, 2025 to Friday August 1, 2025, followed by the remote portion until Friday August 15, 2025.
