Where is housing for the STAHR Program located?
This housing information is subject to change based on needs and availability, including accommodations in nearby hotels or other available apartments. For the Workshop and in-person Summer Institute, STAHR Scholars are typically housed in shared apartments located in The Village at Torrey Pines area of the UC San Diego campus. Usually Apartments include a full-size kitchen and appliances, wireless internet, television with limited cable service, bed and bath linens, cookware and dinnerware, coffee station including coffeemaker, coffee, tea and condiments, iron/ironing board, clothing hangers, and basic toiletries. Housekeeping services are provided every other day and laundry services will also be available at an additional cost.
Where can food and other items be purchased? The Village at Torrey Pines has a small campus market as well as a dining hall where food and other items can be purchased. Apartments are also located about 3 miles from several shopping plazas (Whole Foods, Ralph's, Trader Joe's, and various restaurants).
Are guests able to stay in the on-campus apartments during the Summer Institute? What about pets? We are able to accommodate visiting guests. All guests will need to be registered beforehand. Only service animals are permitted in the apartments.
Is public transportation available? Is parking provided? There are several public transit routes that serve the campus and surrounding areas. Please visit the UC San Diego Transportation Services
Public Transit website for more information. There is a free shuttle to and from the Hillcrest Medical Center. If you plan on bringing or using a car during your stay, parking permits can be purchased from the Transportation Services office. Please visit the Tranportation Services
